On the 21st February the IHBC held its first Business Seminar, in what will hopefully become a regular feature of the IHBC calendar. The business presentation and networking event was jointly hosted with EuCham and attracted over 70 participants.
The evening was opened with a few words from the Irish Ambassador, Mr. John Deady whose message of Irish and Hungarian business relations was echoed by that of the Hungarian Ambassador to Ireland, Dr. Magyarics Tamás. Dr. Magyarics who had prepared a pre-recorded video message specially for the evening.
The speakers on the night provided insight into their respective industries, with Mr. Gerry Lenihan, CEO of of Alfoldi Tej providing some great insight into the Hungarian diary industry and how it compares to that in Ireland. Similarly, Gerard Lucy of Deloitte, highlighted to recent tax changes in Hungary and Ireland and how these tax changes aim to improve each countries deficit in the current economic times.
The final two speakers, on the night offered a more personal view of their experiences and the difference they found when doing business in Ireland compared to Hungary. Ms, Viktoria Vegh who works with the European Cooperation Division of the Ministry of Interior, Hungary, summarised best the constant message being offered by the speakers on the night; a message of Trust and how the level of Trust differed between the countries when doing business.
To finish the evening, Dez O Connell provided the audience a glimpse in the history of Irish Whiskey and how it arrived at its current position in the global beverage market. This was swiftly followed by a tasting of The Irishman Pure Pot Still Whiskey with some expert instruction of how to taste and get the most out of the Whiskey whilst enjoying a dram of Whiskey.
