Welcome, or welcome back – whichever the case may be.

If this is your first year studying in Budapest, then you won’t be long finding your way around. There’s a long history of illustrious Irish students in this city and even more history in the making with each new intake.

The Irish Hungarian Business Circle (IHBC) is still in primary school, in student years, but is working on creating a history of its own. If we were running for election, our slogan would be: We live here; we work here; and we want to contribute to the community. Our members run the gamut from big corporates to small businesses; from companies with tens of employees to sole traders; from interested individuals to interesting individuals. And we want you to join us, too.

Organisations like the IHBC need energy, enthusiasm, and a constant stream of fresh ideas in order to thrive and make a difference to the community. We need your help to do this. And it won’t take much. Our social events are designed to do good, to foster new friendships, and to keep us active. Be it the First Fridays in Jack Doyle’s, the Gift of the Gab speech slam, the Sunday hikes, the golf outings, the boot camps, volunteer days for local charities, the St Patrick’s week celebrations, Derby Day… a good day (or night!) out is practically guaranteed. The craic is there to be had and the people are there to be met.

For most of you, university life won’t last forever. When it comes to polishing up that CV, active involvement in a community-based business and social organisation can only look good. Volunteering at our charity events, sitting on committees (and maybe even doing some work!), helping to form a strong, cohesive network of people who are there to help and assist as they can – all plusses in anyone’s book. And if you need an answer to a tax question, or the name of a good therapist, or the phone number of the least painful wax in Budapest, between us, we can find what you need. Someone always knows someone who knows someone… just ask.

Working in a spirit of cooperation and friendship, the IHBC is in a class of its own. Not quite as formal as the other business chambers in town, we haven’t forgotten the importance of having fun. Neither have we turned our backs on that innate Irish drive to volunteer and contribute.

Welcome to the circle.

Is it your round?
